Welcome to Our Rescue
Meet and greet adoption events are held every Sunday from 11:00 am to 1:45 pm at PetsMart in Crossgates Commons, 161 Washington Ave., Ext., Albany. Stop by during this time only to visit with our wonderful dogs all waiting for their forever families!
We are an all volunteer rescue. Our rescue requires the foster parent to travel to your home for a home visit with the dog you are interested in adopting. Due to time constraints as volunteers, we are only able to accept applications within a 50 mile radius of the Albany International Airport.
Forever Home Dog Rescue consists of a group of volunteers dedicated to matching the needs and personality of our dogs with your family. We are not in a hurry to adopt, we want to make sure the match is perfect for everyone. All of the dogs in our rescue live in our homes with both the human and furry members of our families, so we know their personalities very well. Our adoption process begins with an on-line application which can be found by clicking the above link. Please complete the form in full. The questions we ask help us understand what type of dog is best suited to you/family and your living accommodations. Incomplete applications will not be processed. If you do not provide the name of heartworm and flea and tick prevention you currently use or used with a past dog your application will not be processed, so please check your cabinets or receipts. Adoption events are held every Sunday from 11:00 am to 1:45 pm at PetSmart, 161 Washington Ave., Ext., Albany, NY. When you come to meet our dogs all family members including your fur pup must be in attendance. If there is a dog you are interested in and all agree that he/she would be a great addition to your family we will begin to process your application. If you rent, that is the first call we will make, so please let your landlord know we will be calling. If the landlord gives the ok, the next call will be to your Veterinarian, so please make sure to call them to release your vet history to our volunteer. Thirdly, we will call your personal references, so please give them a heads up that we will be calling. Once all the checks have been done the foster parent will call you to schedule a home visit with the dog you are interested in adding to your family. All members of the family must be present at the time of the home visit. If at that time everyone, including the dog and the foster parent is comfortable with the visit, the adoption will take place and the dog will stay. Our minimum adoption donation is $280.00 or $380.00. This helps us cover veterinary and transportation expenses incurred. All of our dogs are altered, up to date on their vaccines, microchipped, heartworm tested (age appropriate) and already receiving heartworm and flea and tick prevention before being adopted. Thank you for visiting our website, and remember, rescue dogs are the best!

The Meaning of Rescue
Now that I’m home, bathed, settled and fed
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed
I’d like to open my baggage
Lest I forget
There is so much to carry-
So much to regret. Hmmmm…..
Yes, there it is, right on the top.
Let’s unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss
And there by my bed, hide Fear and Shame
As I look on these things I tried hard to leave
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain
I love them, the others, the ones who left me
But I was not good enough – For they did not want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Or will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things –
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage
And never repack?
I pray that you do – I’m so tired you see
But I do come with baggage –
Will you still want me?
